Documentary film festivals are important events for film-makers. These events enable television professionals to enter their latest productions to be screened abroad, and to compete for prizes and honours.  The SLETP has established close links with several international documentary film festivals. This is a free service where we facilitate two-way communication between film makers and film festival organisers.

Free services offered to film makers and television producers:

  • We regularly forward information on forthcoming documentary film festivals, encouraging participation.
  • We offer advice on the particular preferences of different film festivals.
  • In the case of festivals represented locally by us, we also offer to send video tapes from Sri Lanka, by courier, to the festival secretariats at our cost.

Free services offered to film festival organisers:

  • We offer to distribute their announcements and applications to film makers in Sri Lanka.
  • We also publicise film festivals through the Sri Lankan media.
  • We can serve as the official contact point in Sri Lanka for festivals, at no cost to festival organisers.
  • We also organise Sri Lankan screenings for travelling international film festivals.

Since 1995, we have had official contact with the following festivals:

  • EarthVision Tokyo Global Environmental Film Festival (held annually since 1992)
  • Dhaka International Environmental Film Festival in Bangladesh (biannual; so far held in 1997 and 1999)
  • Film South Asia, held in Kathmandu, Nepal (held biannually since 1997; next festival in September 2001)
  • WildScreen, the world’s largest festival for natural history and environmental programmes, held every other year in Bristol, UK (next festival in 2002).
  • Japan Wildlife Film Festival, Asia’s largest festival if this kind, has forged a recent relationship (next festival will be in August 2001).
  • First Asian INPUT Workshop organised by UNESCO Programme for Creative Television and International Public Television, November 2000 in Kathmandu, Nepal.
  • If you are an independent film maker or television producer and would like to be on our mailing list, contact us.
  • If you organise a film festival anywhere in the world, and would like Sri Lankan participation or representation, contact us.
